Can Probiotics Make You Sexier?

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology were surprised to find an unexpected result in their study on probiotics and obesity – increased levels of mouse…for lack of a better word, sexiness. It is unclear whether these results will be relevant to humans, though they certainly have the potential, but researchers are convinced that they have found a correlation between probiotics and what they call “mouse swagger.” Whether probiotic yogurt is the next big aphrodisiac remains to be seen, but if your pet mouse is having a tough time with the ladies, perhaps you should add some probiotics to their diet.

The study initially sought to study the effects of probiotics on obesity. During their study, researchers also discovered that mice with probiotic diets had heavier testicles, thicker fur, and even exuded a type of mouse confidence. Males were able to inseminate females better and produced more babies while female mice were able to wean the larger litters better than mice without probiotics in their diet.

Certainly most mouse and rat studies have the potential to be relevant to humans since our DNA is so similar but there has been little research done on probiotics and human sexual health. A lone Harvard study found that yogurt improved semen quality in men but much more research remains to be done.

Whether you are in the market for a thicker fur coat or larger testicles is up to you but probiotics definitely do have a plethora of benefits when it comes to everything else. From preventing stomach problems and cancers to lowering cholesterol and blood pressure to reducing all sorts of inflammation, probiotics offer countless benefits to your health.

Unfortunately, many yogurt companies have taken advantage of the probiotic craze but only offer one or two strains. Not all strains are created equal which means yogurt may not necessarily be the best way to get your probiotics fix. This is why many opt for a reliable probiotic supplement  that includes multiple strains for optimal effects.
