Vitamin D and Getting Some Rays

Thinking about stepping out into the sun for a bit to get some rays and some vitamin D? Hold that thought…

The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has released a position statement on Vitamin D. And it may surprise you, especially since we’re often told how we need to get some sun in order to get the D we need. The Council’s now recommending that adults should avoid intentionally exposing themselves to sunlight as a way to get vitamin D, and instead to get the vitamin from diet and supplements.

The Council stated that UV radiation has been found to cause skin cancer, and since it’s the Ultraviolet B (UVB) in sunlight that helps our bodies make vitamin D, they found that meeting our vitamin D needs can be done safely through supplements and diet.

So, put on your hat and your sunscreen, and make sure to take your supplements. Click here to find out more about the calcium supplement that we recommend that includes vitamin D.
